Wexler Wallace Volunteers at Albany Park Community Center

by | 12.23.2013 | Chicago, The Firm

As has been tradition at Wexler Wallace for several years, the office was closed last week for half the day while the attorneys and staff took time to volunteer. In the past, the firm has volunteered at homeless shelters, food pantries and community centers helping out the needy. This year, Wexler Wallace returned to the same organization it assisted in 2012 – the Albany Park Community Center.

The Albany Park Community Center is located on the northwest side of Chicago and serves a variety of needs in and around the Albany Park Community, like after school programs for kids, citizenship classes, an adult literacy tutoring program and a veterans program as well as a food pantry and housing resource center.

The APCC has expanded since its inception in 1975 to include six different sites. Wexler Wallace attorneys and staff split into two groups and went to separate APCC locations.

One group, volunteering at the center at 3401 West Ainsle location, had a day chock full of fun activities. Volunteers assisted in one of the early childhood development programs and got the kids into the Christmas spirit. They trimmed a Christmas tree, made ornaments and held a field day complete with games and dancing. Meanwhile, just east at the 4754 N Leavitt location, volunteers assisted children and their teachers at another early childhood location. Some volunteers held a field day for the children in the gym while the rest of the volunteers scrubbed and cleaned every inch of the classrooms in preparation for a community open house the next day.

Wexler Wallace’s annual volunteer day is always one of our favorite days of the year. We look forward to taking time out of our busy schedules to play a little bit and get our hands dirty. And we’ll look forward to doing it all again next year.
