Bethany R. Turke

Partner

“At WBE, our success comes from an unwavering dedication to the pursuit of justice. We work tirelessly to protect and vindicate the rights of those who have been harmed by the misconduct of others.”

Bethany joined WBE in 2012 and has a diverse practice including antitrust, consumer protection, investor, and whistleblower litigation.

Early in her career, Bethany and her team obtained asylum for a pro bono client who had been persecuted in her home country. This experience inspired Bethany to dedicate her work to protecting the rights and interests of those who have suffered at the hands of those more powerful.

In 2016, Bethany began representing the City of Chicago in one of the first lawsuits challenging pharmaceutical companies’ unlawful and deceptive marketing of opioids. Despite knowing opioids pose a risk of addiction, these pharmaceutical companies executed aggressive marketing campaigns that overstated the benefits of long-term opioid use and misrepresented the risks of these dangerous drugs. The opioid epidemic has caused increased addiction rates and overdose deaths and has burdened public entities, like the City of Chicago, with attendant costs.

Bethany continues to work to protect consumers, taxpayers, and investors in myriad contexts. She challenges drug manufacturers’ delay of competition from generic drugs, employers’ unlawful collection of biometric information, and fraudulent and misleading conduct concerning the sale of securities. She is also active in the firm’s whistleblower/false-claims practice, helping spearhead litigation against a major investment bank for underpricing municipal bonds issued by the State of New Jersey and thus causing the State and its taxpayers to pay more to fund key infrastructure projects like schools and roads.
