Aon Corporation Data Breach Class Action Lawsuit

Court: Circuit Court of Cook County, Chancery Division

Maria Flores, et al. v. AON Corporation, Case No. 2022-CH-06132

WBE and co-counsel filed this class action against Aon Corporation on behalf of plaintiffs who were allegedly harmed by a major data breach against global insurance provider Aon.

The lawsuit alleges that when Aon Corporation was targeted by a data breach in late 2020, the company lost control of the sensitive personal information of over 150,000 customers and employees. The lawsuit maintains that Aon breached its duties under the law to provide notification of the breach in a reasonable time and failed to notify the public for nearly a year and a half after the discovery of the breach. Plaintiffs claim that when Aon finally announced the data breach in May 2022, they deliberately underplayed the severity of the attack. Aon allegedly misrepresented that it had no evidence cybercriminals copied, retained, or shared the data, despite knowing that hackers had extended access to files that included names, social security numbers, and driver’s license information.

The lawsuit seeks to provide financial compensation for affected plaintiffs, and to enjoin Aon from further deceptive and unfair practices and making untrue statements about the data breach and stolen information.

After a successful appeal to the Illinois Appellate Court challenging dismissal of their claims in the Circuit Court, reversing and remanding for further proceedings, Plaintiffs continue to litigate the case and are proceeding through discovery.
