Net neutrality is a complicated, almost abstract concept. For as long as we’ve had the Internet, net neutrality has been the law of the land and we’ve all had access to the same websites and services as everyone else.
Changes to the net neutrality policy threaten this freedom. But what would that look like for the average person?
An artist who goes by the name Quink on Reddit created a graphic that shows exactly what our Internet packages could look like if net neutrality is not preserved.
While this image is only an artist’s interpretation of a world without net neutrality, it’s shockingly relatable. Originally created in 2009, when Comcast attempted to appeal the FCC’s ability to enforce net neutrality, the graphic shows just how Internet service providers could divide and conquer the ‘net by bundling access to certain websites and services, much in the way they do for their cable TV packages.
The Internet is arguably the most powerful and important informational tool mankind has ever developed, and the attack on net neutrality threatens to dismantle it and sell it for parts. In order to ensure that the Internet remains open to all, our voices need to be heard.
