Aon Corporation Data Breach Class Action Lawsuit

Court: Circuit Court of Cook County, Chancery Division

Maria Flores, et al. v. AON Corporation, Case No. 2022-CH-06132

WBE and co-counsel filed this class action against global insurance provider Aon Corporation on behalf of plaintiffs impacted by a 2020 data breach involving the sensitive personal information of over 150,000 Aon customers and employees. The lawsuit maintains that cybercriminals bypassed Aon’s inadequate security systems to access personal information in the company’s insurance files and that Aon breached its duties to provide notification of the breach in a reasonable time. Plaintiffs allege that Aon deliberately underplayed the severity of the data breach when it finally announced it in May 2022. Aon also allegedly misrepresented that it had no evidence cybercriminals copied, retained, or shared the data, despite knowing that hackers had extended access to its files.

After a successful appeal to the Illinois Appellate Court challenging the Circuit Court’s dismissal of Plaintiffs’ claims, Plaintiffs and Aon settled the Action. Preliminary approval of the settlement was granted on January 8, 2025.
